Scientism ruminations – monastic quarters for the future century
More on Monastic Quarters for the Next Century
For the upcoming book, “The Modern Monastic”
After a disastrous experiment in Coed monasticism in my youth I have determined that it is impossible to pursue spiritual goals with coed quarters. Therefore In the future segregation must continue by sex.
I am furious with the Catholic faith for denying entry into monasteries for women and men after roughly age 55. I realized that this is unrealistic as a perspective because quite frequently after the age of 50 five people contract terminal illnesses and serious medical problems. You expect the holy order to pay for treatment for a single non normal monk is unrealistic and punitive. However I do see that some come to realization that living as a monastic ascetic for the rest of their lives is good penance and important for them to achieve nearness to God and redemption at death. Therefore, we must rely on the continuance of Medicare and Medicaid coverage in good western nations to pay for the health needs of aging monastics in the faith of scientism which is after all an offshoot of Catholicism in the Roman Catholic form.
So it comes down to a financial crunch. Kin and possibly a charity fund maintained by associates of the Holy Order must pay for leftover expense for health care and burials for members of the monastic community. Of course this could be arranged well in advance when they enter and take their final vows which I believe should be a continuing practice. However I will mention that in 25% of the time final vows are taken prematurely without testing the aspirant.
My view is that monastic should wear conventional modern clothing of a conservative and plain appearance with perhaps a bit indicating their order and rank. Play working on the design for a small palace for women which will have an embroidered application on the back nick Collar area with a beautiful icon of the lamb of God in gold and yellow. The tallis will be blue and white, Short and comfortable for work and daily wear and will not contain any fringe of prayer knots.
Revelation recently from the Lord indicated that he does not care for black as the color of choice. We should lend ourselves to earth colors and blue and white. Symbolism in the Catholic faith regarding green and white makes me wish to avoid it. Regarding footwear I think it should be something like Skechers or clogs or possibly for indoor seclusion yoga slippers.
Scientism sect monks should have the same quarters for either sex and design to be uniform. Each room should have its own small bathroom. At the end of the whole should be a small meditation room to hold 1-3 monks as well as a bookcase of inspirational reading approved by the leader. Corre mats are easy to maintain and sturdy for floors over planks or linoleum or tiles.
Regarding Windows each room must have a large window fairly high up which can be curtained in winter muslin or white gauze. Furniture I envision built a long Amish lines in wood very sturdy although I do think that ikea furniture would be best choice especially constructed by a team at the convent or monastery. It is cheap and simple and quite good.
So now how long and large should be a room. They should be twice as big as your average cover in present monasteries.. cheapest lighting will be a pole limp from Walmart with a 60 Watt bulb with diffused lighting or a Led light bulb costing about $15 total.
Coed dining in a cafeteria at long tables would be best. That is what I envision if guests are present or if there are two separate wings covering both sexes under one umbrella. This can be maintained with formal discipline and monitoring by head monks and nuns. Psychological health dictates that soft talk in gossip should be permitted during eating times. Customary Catholic prayers before meals should be used and recited by a leader prior to self serve on the cafeteria line.
Regarding worship areas or places I will comment on this later on. There should be a large chapel always. I like Sports Lutheran style décor in the naves. Pews which are fairly conventional wood and sturdy as in modern Catholic churches would be acceptable.
Lifestyle: I rise it forward to pray on the Internet with sing the hours Lauds and Vespers. There could be group prayer in front of a large flat screen broadcasting sing the hours on youtube. However the Lord has conveyed the fact that computers are distasteful and toys of to be avoided. So in my holy orders of scientism this will be kept to a minimum perhaps once a day.
Regarding the rest of the time spent I will develop that in the next year but it will be less stringent and demanding then the practices current not convict convince and monasteries in the Catholic faith and Christianity in general. The day should be at most 14 hours long awake. Weekends can feature a short enrichment. With group viewing of documentaries of Saints on EWTN Television which I hope heartedly approve of as part of practice.
